Health Canada has approved the gm squash and says that the squash is harmless and it has no affect on humans in any way.

Because the modified squash is grown under conditions that aren't controlled scientists believe that the gm squash gave the genes to wild squash.  This means that the wild squash will also be more prone to bacterial wilt disease.

The modification backfired because cucumber beetles prefer healthier plants.  The beetles cause the squash to wilt because they carry bacterial wilt disease.

The squash is genetically modified to resist infection from zucchini yellows mosaic virus and watermelon mosaic virus.
The squash is genetically modified by inserting dna from the viruses into the squash. This is how they make the squash resistant to the viruses.

Squash is prone to many viral diseases, such as zucchini yellows mosaic virus and  watermelon mosaic virus.  Both of these diseases lead to leaf malformation and discolouration.  This means that the quality of the crops wont be very good.
